ORANGE DEMOCRATIC MOVEMENT - KENYA 2007

My Fellow Kenyans,

I have a vision of Kenya, a vision of Kenya as a united and prosperous nation that espouses the principles of democracy - freedom, equality, justice, and peace for all our people. Having been raised in a poor family, I fully understand what hunger, poverty and insecurity mean to the majority of Kenyans who live under these conditions. The blight of poverty on our country should and will be removed forever. In this regard, I pledge to bring to you a Presidency with a difference. I seek to bring about positive change in the lives of Kenyans.

Governance: Corruption will be a practice of the past because it will be punished without fear or favour, Security will be guaranteed, Government will be taken to the people through devolution.

Economy: A productive and growing 24-hour economy will be created. Jua kali enterprises will be graduated into cottage industries and small and medium enterprises. A consistent and sustainable double digit growth rate will be ensured in the next five years. In the next five years there will be no community or group that will be referred to as "marginalised".

Poverty and Unemployment (Komesha Umasikini). A 24-hour work cycle will be implemented so that production capacity is placed to optimal use. Regions that have historically suffered from underdevelopment and sheer neglect will receive special equalisation funds for them to accelerate development in priority sectors. The critically poor will receive direct cash transfers. Access to water and food will be guaranteed for all.

Welfare: Education, Early childhood, primary and secondary education will be free, Linkages will be created between universities and industry for their mutual benefit.

Health Care: The number of Kenyans dying from preventable and curable diseases will be reduced. Free health care for children will be provided.

People with Disabilities (PWD): People with disabilities will be enabled to realise equal opportunities in the economy, politics and society.

Infrastructure: More funds will be invested on infrastructure through B.O.T. (Build Operate and Transfer) or B.O.O.T. (Build, Own, Operate and Transfer).

Youth and Women: Involvement of youth and women in development will be ensured through affirmative action.

Workers: The labour sector will be reformed to ensure that workers are not exploited.

Investors and Employers: Investors and employers will be facilitated and enabled to realise meaningful profits.

I pledge to bring to the Kenyan people a Caring, Listening, and Responsive Presidency. Please help me make this pledge a reality and in turn I shall serve you as a true "Servant President".
