The Party of National Unity
Vision and Mission
The Party of National Unity (PNU) was formed in August 2007 by an alliance of seven (7) parties. The founding parties include DP, FORD-KENYA, FORD-PEOPLE, KANU, NARC-KENYA, New Ford-Kenya, and Shirikisho. These seven parties were later joined by a group of twenty parties operating as one entity. These parties include, Agano, Community Development Party, Ford Asili, Forepa, Kenya Republican Reformation Party, Kenya Union of National Alliance, Mazingira Green Party, National Alliance Party of Kenya, National Renewal People’s Party, New Aspirations Party of Kenya, New Generation Party, Republican Liberty Party, Saba Saba Asili, SAFINA, Sheda Party, Sisi Kwa Sisi, United People’s Congress, Vijana Progressive Alliance and Workers Congress. PNU was founded on the principles of national unity, justice, liberty, equality, transparency and accountability in the management of national affairs. It is an all inclusive party with representation from all regions and communities in the country, cutting across age, and gender as well as religions. PNU is open and welcomes other parties who share its founding principles, as well as its vision and mission for Kenya .
Vision and Mission
As a party we are committed to serving the people of Kenya as their elected servants. We believe in justice and security for all people regardless of their origin, religious affiliation, or social status. We are committed to building a prosperous and equitable society. The vision of PNU is therefore a Just, prosperous, secure and equitable future for all Kenyans.
Given this vision our mission will be to enhance, expand and sustain the gains we have made towards the establishment of a democratic, participatory and consultative government in which people are empowered at all levels of our society.
In order to realize our common vision, a PNU Government is committed to undertake the following:
i. Enhance and sustain the right to sustainable and community driven development and protection of the environment. The party will pay special attention to the rights to life and human dignity; fundamental human freedoms; gender equality; freedom of press and worship; liberty and security of persons and property; and the rights of women, persons with disability, the minorities, child and workers.
ii. Ensure that all Kenyans, including women, youth and people living with disabilities are fully involved in the management of party affairs.
iii. Ensure a fair and just leadership in the governance of the country, devoid of corruption, nepotism, tribalism, racism and all other forms of discrimination.
iv. Establish a Government of National Unity that brings together all regions of the country.
A prosperous, secure and equitable future for all Kenyans
The PNU stands for a future where:
i. Every Kenyan adult is empowered to engage in gainful employment, formal or informal.
ii. All Kenyans have access to free basic education of 14 years and equal opportunity for further education and training.
iii. All Kenyans will have decent housing.
iv. No Kenyan will die or suffer from lack of food and healthcare for reasons of poverty.
v. All Kenyan have access to affordable, food transport, healthcare and energy.
vi. Absolute poverty, slum dwelling and street families are eliminated from amongst our people through economic empowerment.
vii. Every Kenyan enjoys his or her fundamental freedoms; including security of person and property, worship, association and expression (press and the mass media).
viii. People living with physical and mental challenges are fully empowered to participate in the affairs of the party and the nation.
ix. Fairness and justice are the pillars of the governance of our society.
Our Pledges
This Government has laid the strongest foundation thus far for Kenya’s development into a stable and mature democracy that has equal opportunities for economic and social progress and development by all of its citizens. We as the PNU alliance desire to build on this solid foundation and make Kenya an even better place to live and work for everyone, and in all parts of the country. Therefore as PNU leadership, we would like to make the following pledges to all Kenyans:
Pledge No. 1
Every child including those with special needs, will be educated for free in public schools from primary to secondary education, giving every single child no matter their background an equal opportunity in life through education.
Pledge No. 2
Every child under five years of age, those enrolled in primary and secondary schools, and children with special needs will receive free treatment in public health facilities, thus giving every single Kenyan child the opportunity to grow up healthy and strong.
Pledge No. 3
Every pregnant woman will receive free ante-natal clinics, free and safe maternity delivery, and free post-natal clinics in our public dispensaries and health centres because we value the lives of every mother and newborn child. A prosperous, secure and equitable future for all Kenyans
Pledge No. 4
We will grow the economy to double its current size in five years, spreading economic benefits to all Kenyans, creating decent jobs for our youth and good incomes for our urban and rural families.
Pledge No. 5
We will double our investment in infrastructure to build world-class networks of roads, railways, airports and seaports, power and communications, water supply, and low-cost housing over the next five years so as to create a globally competitive environment for investments in tourism, manufacturing, communications, financial and social services, and value adding industries in agriculture, livestock production, and fishing in various parts of the country.
Pledge No. 6
We shall invest in developing the Million Stalls and Sheds Programme by building hawkers’ markets, jua kali parks, and small business parks in every city, town and municipality so as to support and encourage investment in the informal sector with the intention of getting half of them to graduate into formal enterprises.
Pledge No. 7
We will recognise community rights and cultural interests, while at the same time striving to promote cohesion, tolerance and mutual respect for cultural diversity of our people so that every Kenyans feels free, respected and secure wherever they are in the country and will not be discriminated or harassed on the basis of ethnicity, religion, race, gender or social status.
Pledge No. 8
We shall strive to ensure that women are assured of more than 30 percent representation in all public appointments and elective positions, and that all minorities are fully represented in our public appointments.
Pledge No. 9
We shall ensure the security of our people and their property by providing for effective security through joint efforts by the police and provincial administration as well as local communities, and by observing and upholding the rule of law, and the sanctity of property rights.
Pledge No. 10
We shall implement a devolution strategy that ensures that each part of the country receives its equitable share of economic and social development opportunities so as to build a society that is cohesive, secure and tolerant; so that it will no longer matter which tribe you are from, which religion you belong to, or which region you come from – we shall all be first and foremost, Kenyans.
The PNU alliance will deliver these pledges with prudence and accountability; ensuring that corruption and wastage are eradicated; that justice is promptly and readily accessible to all Kenyans; that the people of Kenya’s interests are put first in every instance; and that our democracy grows from strength to strength.
